The house and garden

Hidden away down a private tree lined drive off a quiet lane that runs down to the beach you will find CB. Tucked away and secluded with plenty of parking and sitting in its own grounds. In the winter the brook that runs through the garden fills up and tumbles its way down to the beach. In the summer it buzzes with wildlife and birds and the sound of the sea.

Curlew Bank sits within a gently wild, much-loved garden – full of colour, birdsong, and lush greenery that shifts beautifully with the seasons.

A decked terrace wraps around the front of the house, catching the sun for most of the day and offering lovely views across the garden, valley, and out toward the bay. Just outside the front door, you’ll find one of two outdoor dining spots – a large table and chairs set on the deck, perfect for relaxed breakfasts, long lunches, or evening drinks with the light softening over the water.

Further down the garden, tucked slightly out of the breeze, is a second dining area on the stone patio – a peaceful, sheltered space surrounded by grasses, ferns and flowers. It’s a lovely place to read, gather, or fire up the BBQ as the sun begins to set.

The lower lawn can stay damp after rain, but just above the wall near the path to the beach lies a more secluded upper lawn – sunny and quiet, ideal for sunbathing, relaxing, or escaping with a book and the sound of the sea close by.

Hidden away underneath the house, you’ll find the log store and the barbecue – easy to reach, but neatly out of sight when not in use.

Both dining spots – up on the deck and down on the patio – are immersed in the garden, private yet open to the sea air and ever-changing light over the bay. Whether you’re cooking outside, chasing the last of the sun, or simply sitting quietly as the tide creeps in, this garden offers space to slow down and soak it all in.

There’s also a Bose Bluetooth speaker and a good old-fashioned kitchen radio if you’d rather let the sound of music or the shipping forecast fill the space.

Once you are in you can start to relax

Also upstairs across the landing with a chest of draws full of spare towels and sheets is the Twin room: Two single beds and a chest of drawers, ideal for children or adults who don’t mind sharing.

There’s also a bright and airy upstairs bathroom, complete with bath, basin and WC – perfect for a soak after a swim, a walk, or a slightly-too-long stint in a wetsuit, looking up out of the skylight.

As with the rest of CB, everything has been chosen with care – soft bedding, extra blankets, a scattering of books, and the kind of lived-in comfort that makes you feel at home the moment you arrive

You’ll also find:

Board games and rainy-day puzzles. A bookshelf full of well-thumbed favourites, holiday reads, and children’s books Broadband Wi-Fi for when you need it – but we recommend looking out of the huge bay window over the garden and to the sea instead.

There is a high chair and cot if needed. There is also a kids table and chairs for outside on the veranda and don’t forget the hot outside shower that you can jump in straight from the beach or your run.

The door closes the water is hot and you can still hear the sea and the birds as you wash the sand off.
